2026 Race Barge Report

Will update transiting barges throughout the week

This list is up to date to the best of our ability. Scroll down to see full list. Plans are likely to change throughout the week. We will attattempt to update this list as new information arrives, but it’s common for surprises to happen throughout the race. We may send mass texts to racers, ground crews and volunteers if there is a confirmed barge moving through the whole race course. We won't text updates on locally moving barges.

TLDR:

Wednesday morning, there are a couple barges moving through the race course:

  • MV Mr. Lampton oil barge is planning on moving upstream from MM 289 (LEFT) early morning.
  • MV Deborah Miles oil barge is planning on moving downstream from MM 219 (7 miles downstream of Glasgow. They will move past all racers downstream of that point.

There are several “barges” or pieces of equipment that may be in or near the channel:

  • Dredge just upstream of Glasgow Bridge on the Left – MM 226.9.
  • Dredge just upstream and across river of Jefferson City checkpoint in the center of river – MM 144.5. At 6 p.m. Wed, they are planning on moving the dredge against the bank river right. At night, stay left of the dredge.
  • Dredge just downstream of Hermann checkpoint on the right - MM 97.
  • Work Barge in channel on Left in Berger Bend – MM 90 (8 miles downstream of Hermann)
  • Work Barge just off channel MM 75 on the right.
  • Work Barge just off-channel just upstream of Washington Bridge (MM 67)
  • Dredge on right 3 miles downstream of Washington – MM 65.3

RACERS - please respect our towboat pilot friends by getting out of the channel when passing moving barges. If you can't see the pilot house, they can't see you. Give lots of space between you and ANY barge or dredge whether they are moving or tied up. For more on barge safety see our Resource page.

MORE DETAIL BELOW

Barges

Possible Transiting Barges

These are towboats with barges hauling freight long distances up or downstream, i.e. from Kansas City to St. Louis. Moving products such as cement, petroleum, fertilizer or grain.

MAGNOLIA MARINE

  • These are towboats with two barges that fill with petroleum products in Wood River, IL, transit upstream to offload just downstream of Kansas City then return empty back down the river. They will suspend nighttime operations during the race.
  • MV Mr. Lampton tied up Tuesday night near MM 289 river LEFT. Plans on moving upstream in the morning.
  • MV Deborah Miles is tied-up Tuesday night near Mile 219 (7 miles downstream of Glasgow). Will continue downstream Wednesday morning. Many racers will encounter this barge on Wednesday coming downstream from behind them.

MISSOURI RIVER TOWING

  • MV Gerald Engemann currently at Brunswick MM 256. May head downstream during the week.
  • MV Melba Engemann. Headed downstream ahead of race. We should not encounter this barge.

MICHELS CONSTRUCTION –

  • Wednesday - Two Towboats with rock barges moving from mile 133 (near Osage River) downstream to MM 95 downstream of Hermann.

Work and Sand Barges moving locally

Most of these boats tending to sand dredges or placing rock are only moving during the day. Most of these boats are moving from a sand dredge in the river to a sand plant on land, or from a rock loading site to a rock placement site. Their exact locations will likely change during the week as they complete work and move to another site. Some will have big wakes, others may have minimal wakes. It depends!

There are fewer rock work barges active in the race course this year than in recent years as the massive Corps of Engineers funded refurbishment of navigation structures is winding down.
