Frequently Asked Questions
What are the dates for the 21st Annual (2025) MR340?
There are 2 full moon weeks targeted for the race.
Primary date is July 28 - July 31, 2026 (Mandatory Race Check-In July 27)
Secondary (Postponement) date is August 25 – August 28, 2026 (Mandatory Race Check-In August 24)
Who is Missouri River Relief?
Missouri River Relief is the nonprofit organization that hosts the MR340. The race is our biggest fundraiser of the year. MRR is dedicated to connecting people to the Missouri River through powerful experiences. We host river clean-ups, diverse education programs and recreation events. We’ve been doing it for over 20 years and we’re gaining steam! Find out more at our website.
How do I register?
Registration Opens at 8:00am CST on New Year’s Day, January 1. Registration and more registration details are here.
Registration for the MR340 is per person, not per boat. Racers who register before April 1 can register with a non-refundable $75.00 deposit and fundraise or pay the remaining $200 by April 1. Those registering between April 1 and May 1 will pay an increased full $300.00 at registration. Those registering June 1 or after will pay $340.00. More information about how fundraising works can be found above.
New registrations are taken until July 24, 2026.
Can I register my whole team at once?
Each racer registers individually. There is an option to register more than one person in your boat, but we ask that only teams within the same household use this option to make sure we get the best contact information for everyone possible. It also avoids one person being charged for the remaining balance on other boatmates' fundraisers on April 1.
For boats with multiple paddlers, we recommend that you select one person on your boat to register first. The first person to register will be the Boat Captain (this is internal to registration and doesn't mean anything in the race itself). That person will be entering the boat number, boat name, boat color, Ground Crew contact information. Once that person is successfully registered, other boat members can click the "Join An Existing Boat" button on page one of registration, enter the correct boat number and their remaining personal information and pay for their registration.
How does the fundraising work?
Registering early (before April 1) earns racers the option of fundraising to cover $200 of the registration amount instead of paying the full $275.00 upfront. A shareable fundraising page and link is automatically created for all registrants, making it easy for friends and family to contribute tax-deductible donations toward your goal. The race registration fee is $275.00 (plus card processing fees) until April 1, when the cost increases to $300.00. On June 1, the cost increases to $340.
Those who register prior to April 1 can pay a non-refundable $75.00 deposit and fundraise or pay the remaining $200 themself by April 1. Any remaining balance is automatically charged to the card on file on April 1. Those registering on or after April 1 will pay the full increased cost of $300.00 at registration (without the option of a deposit and fundraising the remaining). Those registering after May 31 will pay the full increased cost of $340.
You're not limited to raising $200! Racers can fundraise and earn perks at certain levels. The more you raise, the more you gain. Check out our fundraising page to see what awesome perks are up for grabs (we'll be updating this in early 2026). Plus, every dollar raised is a tax-deductible donation to Missouri River Relief, helping us deliver thrilling races, educational adventures, and impactful river clean-up programs. Fundraise big, win big, and help keep the river wild and clean!
What if the race gets postponed?
It’s possible the race could be postponed due to flooding or other issues of safety. This has happened a few times in the history of the race. If there is a year where it is unsafe to race either the primary or secondary race dates, there will be no race that year. When determining unsafe flood conditions, we reference the Flood Stage category for the Kansas City (32’), Glasgow (25’), Jefferson City (23’), and Hermann (21’) river level gauges, while considering safe shoreline for all ramps along the course.
If the race is cancelled, your entire entry fee becomes a tax-deductible donation.
How fast does the race sell out? Is there a waiting list?
We look at a variety of factors as the roster builds, and when we have reached capacity, we will close individual divisions that hold large numbers of participants. There is not a waiting list. Reach out to racing@riverrelief.org with your questions.
Are there refunds?
No, there are no refunds or vouchers for a future race in the case of injury, scheduling conflict, illness or other. Nor are refunds or vouchers offered in the event the river is flooded to a point where the primary and secondary dates are not feasible to host a race. In such events of racer withdrawal, race cancellation, or race not held, the full registration becomes a tax-deductible gift to Missouri River Relief.
