Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in helping with this year's MR340. This event only happens because of our awesome volunteers at check-in, boat ramps, checkpoints, and the finish line!

This year's race is July 28-31 (with Race Check-in July 27).

The most common feedback we hear from Racers and their Ground Crews is how amazing the volunteers along the race course are. We couldn't agree more. Thank you so much for being part of this rockstar team.

You can sign up to volunteer for multiple shifts at multiple locations in our Volunteer Signup form. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email us at mr340volunteer@riverrelief.org.

URGENT NEED - We need more volunteers to help with Race Start Parking early morning Tuesday, July 28. It involves a 5:30 p.m. volunteer meeting on Monday, July 27, then you return at 4:00 a.m. to help with parking. Here's the link to signup.

Here's a little more info about what our race volunteer experiences are like:

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteering options include a variety of roles. Some of our most common volunteer needs include the following:

KAW POINT RACE START (Kansas City)

  • Monday - Help with a variety of Pre-Race Check-In duties such as handing out race shirts, safety cards or helping racers check their info or assisting racers to perform their first check-in at Kaw Point.
  • Tuesday - Race Day EARLY morning parking assistance. If you are interested in this specific opportunity, click this link, check out the details and SIGN UP!

RAMP MANAGEMENT (Along the entire race route)

  • Setting up Checkpoints or Paddlestops
  • Parking, ramp, and trash management
  • Offering local and race course knowledge to ground crews and racers
  • Ramp Boat Management - Directing Ground Crews where to set boats out of the way and physical labor involving lifting and carrying boats. Involves getting feet (and often legs) wet.
  • RaceOwl race tracking assistance (a specialized task for data nerds familiar with the race - some of this can be remote)

LEWIS & CLARK BOATHOUSE and Museum RACE FINISH (St. Charles)

  • Identifying incoming racers approaching finish line
  • Cheering for racers as they come into the finish line
  • Directing ground crews where to set boats out of the way.
  • Helping steady boats while exhausted paddlers finish. Physical labor involving lifting and carrying boats while getting feet wet
  • Updating Finish Times
  • Recording finish times of racers
  • Handing out medals and trophies to racers
  • Run Errands.
